ANY GIVEN DAY
(listen to MP3 sample)
THE
SONG: "Any Given Day" is your basic rant on
televangelism. I was watching this televangelist on the TV
and in the right hand corner of the screen he had this meter
running with the number of souls he had saved that day. It
was running at a pace of dozens per minute. It reminded me
of the "Billions Served" sign at McDonalds. So that
was the main inspiration for the song. It was written literally
in minutes. I was pretty proud of that until I realized that
this guy had saved like 480 people in the time it took me
to write the tune. My co-writer Mike Naydock contributed some
of the 2nd verse that we edited in there after the fact.
THE
RECORDING: With this song, the recording was as quick
as the writing. Paul sang it. Lots of compression, Big Muff
guitars, and sloshy drums. Simple.
