"KEEP ON THE SUNNY SIDE" BY THE CELLARBIRDS AND K8
Saturation Acres in-house band/production team, The Cellarbirds recently joined forces with K8 to record a version of The Carter Family's "Keep On the Sunny Side". The tune is currently being featured as part of Days Inn's national advertising campaign. The spots started running in April and inside sources have reported sightings on Good Morning America and MSNBC, among others. Look for the tune to be available as a download-only in the near future. Until then, you can get more info on The Cellarbirds right here or at at http://www.samrecords.net. K8's site is http://www.k8music.com. More on this as things develop.

REGIONAL CORPORATE STUFF
As part of our never ending quest for Pennsylvania radio domination, we have several regional corporate spots running as we speak. We have recently done radio commercials for PSECU, The Harrisburg Senators, and atmospheres for EZ103 in N.E.P.A. Good stuff.

BREAKING BENJAMIN
A little late on this one, but hey, you know what they say. At the end of last year, BB released their "So Cold" EP. Contained therein is the track "Ladybug" that was produced in its entirety by Bret and Paul at SA. We recorded that over a year ago and we're pleased that it finally saw the light of day. A bit punkier and rawer than their latest record methinks. http://www.breakingbenjamin.com

February

KATE DOVELYN
We were thrilled to get to work on this stuff. Kate's tunes have this R&B/Classic Rock thing to them that was a gas to record. Ron Simasek on drums, Bret playing guitar and Paul, Bret, and Kasaan Hammon producing. Aaron Fincke of Breaking Benjamin also came in and laid down some badass guitar tracks for us. These songs could be all over the radio. Kate is based in Philly. All of our best to her. http://www.katedovelyn.com/

CARSON'S WINDOW
Chicago's own Carson's Window recently made the trek to da Acres and their new self titled EP is the result. Bret produced the disc and played on most of the tracks. Paul added a few dubs here and there as well.... as usual. Caryn Carson's voice is impressive and the piano/electric violin instrumentation adds a nice twist to these tunes. A great new band with a lot of promise. Check 'em out at: http://www.carsonswindow.com

TEMPLE OF ECHOES
We are currently in production with NYC's own Temple of Echoes. Elements of GNR, Stone Temple Pilots, and all things rock. Kevin Miller (formerly of Fuel) played drums on the project. We are thrilled to have him in our camp as a studio musician. If you need the big beat, he is your man. More on these guys later. We'll be at it for a while on this one. http://www.templeofechoes.com/ for updates.

SALINE
Bret just finished mixes on the latest offering from Christian rock band, Saline. Mixed elements of pop, rock, blues, and gospel combined with a singular message. Release date is TBA.... Spring-ish I bet. Check them out at http://www.salinemusic.com/

SHAWN Z
Our boy continues to gain ground. Currently featured as artist of the week on XM Radio's X Country station (Ch. 12). Check out Shawn's schtuff at http://www.shawn-z.com

Lit Riffs- Our first "Cover" Record Production.
This disc features several SATURATION ACRES alumni (The Badlees, Katsu, Alex Seier, Eric James, K8, Teenage Girls, Jared Campbell, AJ, Joe Charles). Lit Riffs is a companion CD to a short story collection of the same name that was released on MTV Books in June. Go to http://www.samrecords.net/ for more info on the CD…and the book.

k8- "Something Out of Nothing"
This EP was recorded at SATURATION ACRES over the course of this year and was released this summer. There has been tons of great press on this disc, so check it out at http://www.k8music.com/. Also, K8 did a stellar job on The Velvet Underground's "I Found a Reason" for the Lit Riffs CD and we are currently starting production on her next full-length disc due out in 2005.

Bret Alexander - "Gentleman East"
Bret's first solo outing was released in May. The best stripped arrangements and narrative songwriting that you will find this side of the late, great Johnny Cash. Go to: http://bretalexander.com/ for more info. Several of the tracks from Gentleman East will also be included in the soon to be released independent film "EVERYTHING'S JAKE" http://www.samrecords.net/everythingsjake.html which Bret and Paul scored at SATURATION ACRES.

Everything's Jake
We recently completed a bunch of tracks for “Everything’s Jake”, an independent film starring Ernie Hudson and Debbie Allen, due out this year. The film is currently on the film festival trail with stops planned in Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco to name a few. The tracks came out so well that we are planning on fleshing them out and releasing them as part of Bret’s first solo record. Tentatively scheduled for the fall. Stay tuned.

Teenage Girls
Bret just completed four more tracks with indie rock gods Teenage Girls, including the cheeky rock anthem “Untwist”. The band is getting so much great press, we thought you should know about it. Because we care… The band is currently on tour. Check them out at http://www.teenagestyle.com/.

The Cellarbirds
Last year, Saturation Acres in-house band The Cellarbirds joined “singer at large” John Blair to record a rendition of The Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning”. That recording will be Track #1 on Wampus Music’s Lou Reed tribute CD, “After Hours: A Tribute to the Music of Lou Reed”, due out on April 25th. Go to http://www.wampus.com/ to get yours.

Breaking Benjamin
A quick heads up: Breaking Benjamin, Saturation Acres alumnus and our ambassadors to the world will be performing on “Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn" the evening of April 7th. They are currently on the road in support of “Saturate”, their major label debut on Hollywood Records. Look for them on the Godsmack tour this summer, starting on May 1st.

AJ
One of the first records to come out of Saturation Acres was AJ's "Altercana Rock Recording". It remains one of our favorite collections to date. Great songs and some really cool "Alternative meets Americana" production (hence the name). Check out "All That You've Done" and "30 Miles From Nowhere" for a definitive sampling. And that AJ is a damn nice fella to boot!! Anyway, we have finally coerced him into a followup which is currently under way. The first track "Lovers and Sinners" has AJ showing us more of his happy go lucky pop side. And AJ's new band rocks ass. Look for us to spout off about our boy more in the coming months. In the meantime, go to http://www.ajnow.com and show him your love.

Everything's Jake Soundtrack
We are currently writing and recording tracks for the fantabulous independent film, "Everything's Jake" starring Ernie Hudson and Debbie Allen. This is very much a work in progress, but early indications say that we might walk out of this project with a pretty powerful record as well as the movie score. We'll keep you posted on the progress of the music and the film.

Singer Songwriters
We are very fortunate to have a host of talented singer/songwriters from all over the place falling in our laps as of late. Look for releases this year by Joe Charles (NYC), Jared Campbell (Binghampton, NY), Mark Helbock (NYC), and Jessica Weiser (Indianapolis). We are in the development stages of all of these projects. Stay tuned........

January/February

Imports
It's not just for Pennsylvania anymore. We have had a few imported projects as of late. Mixer Whiz Paul Smith recently completed the new offering from songwriter/guitarist extraordinaire Demian Meng. Demian hails from Chico, CA. Extremely well done. Excellent songs and musicianship all around………Bret is also busy fleshing out Joe Kuckla's collection of cowboy songs that he brought back to Saturation Acres from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Just did some zydeco accordion the other day that kicked ass. This is going to be a cool record. A dozen tales of travel, goats, donkeys, and unrequited love.

Breaking Benjamin
A heads up: Our ambassadors to the world continue to do well with their Hollywood Records debut, "Saturate". Currently on tour with Three Doors Down. Show them your love, people!! http://www.breakingbenjamin.com

"Concert For A Cure" V
Just got the inside scoop: The "Concert For Karen" series continues this year with a new name and a constant mission. Last year, Saturation Acres and The Badlees recorded a 4 song EP for the cause (Leukemia Research) and donated 100% of the proceeds. We are planning to make this a yearly Saturation Acres thing, so we are currently working on ideas for this year's recording. Kudos to Alan Stout and all the media in NEPA for this great event. The concert is slated for April 23, 2003 in The Woodlands Grand Ballroom, Wilkes Barre, PA. Stay tuned for more info………

December

Entity
North Central PA's Progressive Hard Rock outfit Entity recently completed their record at SA. Recorded, mixed, and mastered in one day. If that doesn't have indy cred, I don't know what does. Kind of Tool, kind of Pearl Jam, kind of Pink Floyd. The style is hard to nail down. Which is just the way they like it. More details to come. These guys are so underground even I don't know how to find them online. If you see them, tell them I'm looking for them.

The Hootenanny/The Mullets
Alt Country at its finest. These two bands are kind of interbred. Both were recorded and mixed by our maverick engineer/producer Dave Goodermuth. (http://www.groovestainproductions.com/). Expect to see releases from both of these bands in the coming months. Both of these records were also done in a few short days. We are really churning them out. The Big 80's days of spending two days on the kick drum sound are gone. Our motto: "Point it towards the noise."

Country Christmas for Kids

Our favorite charity, The Children's Miracle Network, has a CD available for the holiday season. It's called "Country Christmas For Kids". It was recorded and produced by Paul and Bret at SA last year. Pete from The Badlees did all the graphic design for the project. All proceeds go to the kids and this organization has our complete support. It's a great cause and a darn good stocking stuffer too. For details, go to http://wwwvip.geisinger.edu/about/telethon/holiday_items.shtml

Badlees Live Record: A Retrospective
We have spent the last few weeks working on a unique project. We dug through years of tapes, and we are happy to report………The Badlees will be releasing their first live record for this holiday season. Assembled and mastered at Saturation Acres, it's entitled "If Memories Had Equity" and will be available online and at shows in late November/early December. We have included live performances, radio and TV performances, and a few added bonuses including a remixed version of our holiday classic "Heatmiser". There are also several never before released tracks from the band. Performances are taken from a 7-year period from 1995-2002. A must for any diehard Badlees fan. Stay tuned.

November

John Blair and The Cellarbirds
Singer-at-Large John Blair came to Saturation Acres a few months ago to record the Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning" with super cool, in-house band, The Cellarbirds. The track will be included on Wampus Music's "Tribute to Lou Reed" CD to be released in April 2003. For more information, go to the official Wampus website at: http://wampus.com/lou.html. Or to listen to an MP3 sample, click here.

VIH Blues Band
A few months ago, Sterling Koch, of the VIH Blues Band, walked into Saturation Acres with an armful of tapes that he had recorded at home and at a few other regional studios. He pretty much dropped the tapes in our laps and told us to go to town mixing the stuff. Flattered by the vote of confidence, we started wading through the tracks. From their version of "Peter Gunn" to "Can't Judge A Book" and "Bluesman For Life", it's pretty apparent that Sterling and his band are the real thing. Classic tones authentically displayed. These guys have all the necessary information. Listen up kiddies, you might learn something. Go to http://www.vihband.com or http://www.sterlingkoch.com/ for more stuff.

40 LB Head
Last month at Saturation Acres, Paul Smith mixed "Third Shift", the upcoming release from them there 40Lb Head fellas. The band recorded all the basic tracks on a 1680 and, like Sterling Koch, walked in with their record under their arm. Quirky and cool stuff from one of NEPA's hardest working bands. The record is due to be released in early November. If ya wanna, go to http://www.40lbhead.com/ for additional info.

Katsu - "This Gorgeous Mess"
From the school of hip hop, hippy rock, and hard knocks comes Katsu's new disc "This Gorgeous Mess", done entirely at Saturation Acres. Part Dylan, part Run DMC, part Allman Bros. and part SugarHill Gang. Great stuff y'all gotta hear. Whips and Banjos at no extra charge. Check out a review of the record at http://www.katsuiswatchingyou.com/press.htm or go to Katsu's website for more stuff. http://www.katsuiswatchingyou.com/

Emily's ToyBox - "25/7"
Love these guys. Seeing it firsthand, they deserve all their success. Great sense of humor, ridiculously hard workers, and a great band. Paul Smith just finished mixing their record at SA a few weeks ago. It is due out on Nov. 1st. Several instant classics on this one that your mother doesn't want you to hear. Go to http://www.emilystoybox.com/ for details.

Sona - In the running for an AMA new music award
Sona recorded an EP in 2001 at Saturation Acres. Chock-full o' hits and heavy rock guitars. Currently, the band has made the first cut for the AMA new music award sponsored by Coca-Cola and CMJ. Please take a moment to go to the official site http://www.newmusicaward.com/ and vote for Sona. Dick Clark himself will be listening. They are in the top 50! Also visit http://www.sonamusic.com/

Breaking Benjamin
In the spring of 2001, Breaking Benjamin recorded their first independent EP at Saturation Acres. The band quickly drew attention of several major labels and, within a year's time, they were signed to Hollywood Records. Their label debut "Saturate" was released on August 27th and immediately cracked the Billboard Top 200 and Heatseekers chart. BB recently recorded two B-sides at Saturation Acres: a cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" and a new original entitled "Ladybug". These tracks will be included on their album's international releases. The band starts their first national tour on Sept 27th. For more info go to http://www.breakingbenjamin.com

The Badlees
In the spring of 2002, The Badlees recorded their first studio album in over 3 years at Saturation Acres........... aptly titled "Renew". On June 22nd The Badlees filmed a live concert at the Hammerstein Grand Ballroom in NYC. On August 18th, a one-hour television special of the concert aired on the WB and Fox networks in several markets throughout Pennsylvania. The concert will air in the Lehigh Valley next Sunday (September 29, 2002) at 10PM on Service Electric TV2. A live record (currently in post production at Saturation Acres) and a DVD are also in the works. Go to http://www.badlees.com for more info.

Teenage Girls
Indy rock gods Teenage Girls released their CD "The Initial Assault LP: The Art of Friendship" on Sept.10th. The record was recorded and mixed in a few short days at Saturation Acres and is definitely worth checking out. Rock as nature intended. Raw, smart, and unpretentious........ Congrats to the band on winning Philadelphia region's Volkswagen/Clear Channel Battle of the Bands. Go to http://www.teenagestyle.com for more stuff.
